A WORD ABOUT TASSELS

A Tassel is the purest form of embellishment- decoration for decoration’s sake. Consisting consisting of a head and a skirt, a tassel is typically made of silk, cotton, linen or wood. other materials such as jute or beading are also used. The tassels head is constructed from a wooden form or bead covered with thread and tatting (a lace of loop and knotted thread). Flat, dome, ball, arrow or rectangular can be used to shape the head. The skirt extends below the head, and can be made of bullion fringe or cut or looped yarn. A dangling tassel draws the eye to whatever feature it is accenting. It is often centered on a valance or a swag. It can also punctuate the notches of a cornice. A tassel can be a visual counterbalance to to the long tail of an asymmetrical treatment. or it can function as a shade pull. When you attach a tassel to a thick cord, it becomes a luxurious tieback.

Key Tassel- A traditional type of tassel that was formerly used on key fobs.
Rosette- In this case, the Rosette is a circular ornament of tatting, painted wood, or semi-precious stone baubles with a tassel attached.
Frog Tassel- It has three loops of cording with a rosette in the center. The tassels hang from cording behind the rosette

RUFFLES AND BORDERS

Ruffles and borders are attractive ways to finish off the edge of a curtain or the hem of a shade. Like other embellishments, these edgings add definition to a treatment’s shapePrairie PaintsThis features small squares of material placed at an angle to the edge of a curtain fabric, resulting in a zigzag border.Ruffles A ruffle is a border of gathered fabric attached to the edge of a curtain or a shade. A Double Ruffle features two layers of frill. A Pleated Ruffle falls in neat foldsBorders This can be as simple as an attractive ribbon or a piece of contrasting fabric attached to the edge of a treatment. Applique borders are cutout patterns sewn onto the edge of a curtain or shade. Some of the motifs include waves, leaves, Greek key patterns, and geometric designs
