A look at Rod Pockets
The rod pocket a window treatment that is the portion of the valance where the rod or pole is inserted; stitching lines at the top and bottom of the rod pocket keep the rod in place. to find the depth of the rod pocket, measure around the widest part of the rod; add 1/2″ to this measurement and divide by 2. The heading of a rod pocket is the optional extension at the top that forms a ruffle when the valance is on the rod. The depth of the heading is the distance from the top of the finished valance to the top stitching of the rod pocket.
Rod pocket designs vary depending on the rod or pole used. whether or not there is a heading and how deep it is, and the fullness of the style. In some instances, the valance is lined to add body and prevent light from showing through. For a lightweight airy feeling, however, the lining can be left out.
Sheer, semisheer, lightweight and medium-weight fabrics can be used. Generally the lighter the fabric, the more fullness the valance can have. From triple fullness for sheer fabrics. to oe and a half times the fullness.for a casual look. with medium-weight fabric.
Several types of rods can be used for mounting rod-pocket valances, including the rods in widths of 1″, 2 1/2″, and 4 1/2 ” Wood and metal pole sets with elbows or finials can also be used and are available in several diameters. On a pole with elbows, the sides of the valance return to the wall
When a pole with finials is used,returns can be created at the sides of the valance by stitching an opening in the front of the rod pocket for inserting the pole.
