Horizontal and Vertical Blinds

Traditional slatted blinds, come in a wide variety of materials Used alone, a they have a linear, almost industrial quality that works well in a contemporary setting. However, it is easy to warm up blinds by pairing them with curtains or any of the fabric top treatments

Wood blinds in a contemporary home.

Venetian Blinds

Usually made from aluminum, this blind consists of a series of 1″, 2″, or 3″ wide horizontal slats held together by cords and twill tapes. The slats can be raised and lowered or angled to control light. It comes in many colors and finishes including anti-static, metallic, pearl, suede, and a perforated finish that permits light to enter, even when the blind is closed

Wood-Slat Blinds

A Venetian blind constructed from wood is called a Wood -Slat Blind. The finish can be natural, stained, or painted. Because wood slats are thicker, wood slats have a deeper stack then aluminum when pulled up. When down, the blind is reminiscent of shutters, particularly when the slats are in closed position

Miniblinds

Narrow, 1/2 inch wide aluminum or PVC Venetian blinds are called Miniblinds. They are particularly popular because when the blind is lowered and fully open, the slots are almost invisible. They come in a wide range of colors to match almost any decor. The 1″ wide blinds are also sometimes referred to as Miniblinds

Vertical Blinds

Although Vertical Blinds are especially popular in offices, they are equally at home in a contemporary, residentialF setting. They are installed on a track across the top of the window so that they can be drawn closed, just like draperies. Remote control units are available (you can even control them with your Smartphone)so they don’t have to be closed by hand. The slats can be linked together at the bottom by a metal chain or left hanging free. The slats are commonly made from wood, synthetic flexible material, or stiffened fabric. Special track systems are available for bow, bay, and angled windows

Window Shadings

a special type of blind, called a window shading, features soft fabrics slats inserted between two layers of sheer fabric, allowing daylight to filter through the open slats. Window Shadings are available in horizontal and vertical styles The fabric of the Horizontal Blinds lies flat; the vertical version falls in soft folds like pleated draperies
